Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert

It is raining. And I thought the mood is just more than perfect to listen to this legendary album, The Köln Concert by piano master Keith Jarrett.

I never feel tired or bored to describe the music by Keith Jarrett. I am always running out of superlatives to describe his works. Let alone this album. One of the best-selling albums of ECM label. And number one best-selling solo piano album of all time. This album redefines everything. This redefines piano and improvisation. This redefines your opinions about music.

By judging from the cover itself, you can tell that you are in for wonderful journey again. This whole album is fully-improvised. The creation is spontaneous process. Jarrett never plan or whatsoever. He sits down and meditates in front of his piano. This Köln Concert is certainly his greatest work.

Actually this whole album is accidental. Jarrett almost refused to play in the concert, because he didnt get the piano he wanted. He just went for European tour and it was extremely tiring for him. Playing solo fully spontaneous all the time. But the promoter and audiences persuaded him. And we should thank those guys because if not, it’s impossible to enjoy this kind of musical treat.

Part I opens with amazing technique and carefully-selected notes from heaven. I know I sounded like bombastic, but give it a try and you know why. After all it’s quite pointless to describe his work. One thing for sure, he will take you places. His music makes you ponder and feel about joy and sadness. You will feel re-energised for sure.

I dont think I need to recommend this album anymore. Let the music speaks for itself and it will blow you away. You don’t want to miss this album, I don’t care whether you are Jarrett-devotee like me or not. It’s musical journey that everyone must experience.
